The Motorsport Development Board held its latest meeting in Northampton recently, as a result of which, it agreed to:
- Support the attendance of motorsport businesses at the Farnborough International aerospace exhibition in later this year, as part of its business development objectives
- Appoint John Kirkpatrick as launch director for the Motorsport Academy which aims to improve skills development and co-ordinate learning provision
- Engage Dr Steve Bunkhall of Cambridge University to lead its activities in relation to the development and promotion of energy efficient motorsport in the UK
- Support the delivery of an enhanced Motorsport Learning Grid programme of educational engineering initiatives.
The Board provides industry & sporting leadership and direction on a five-year programme to sustain and develop the UK motorsport cluster based on the recommendations of the Motorsport Competitiveness Panel, for which 16 million of government funding support will be provided.
It meets every two months, with the next meeting scheduled to take place in Northampton on Tuesday, 16th March 2004 when it will be considering:
- Plans for a business development infrastructure covering exports, inward investment, cross-sector technology transfer, innovation and business support.
- Plans from the Motor Sports Association for encouraging a greater number of volunteer officials to enter and stay involved in the sport
- Plans aimed at improving accessibility and widening participation in the sport.
