Energy Efficient Motorsport
2007

2007 is already proving to be another exciting year for EEMS.  As well as continued support towards the development of hybrid vehicles for both race and rally competition, and the development of kinetic energy recovery systems, this year has seen an increased interest in the use of alternative fuels on the race track.

Barwell Motorsport have converted their Aston Martin DBRS9 to run on bioethanol E85 in the 2007 Avon Tyres British GT Championship.  So far, the bioethanol car is proving to be extremely completive taking pole position in the first round of the Championship and coming second in the second round, both at Oulton Park.  In the fifth round at Snetterton on 3 June 2007, they started in pole position and achieved a historic first championship win for a bioethanol car in the UK.

Formula Woman is an all-female national competition, designed to attract women into motorsport and to find and develop up-and-coming female racing talent.  For 2007 the championship has converted all of its standard Caterham Roadsport race cars to run on bioethanol E85, becoming the first UK series to run exclusively on the blend of 85% bioethanol and 15% petrol.

Jenkins Motorsport is the first team to convert to biodiesel in the British Truck Racing Association Championship in 2007.  The truck, currently running on 50% biodiesel, has a number of noticeable advantages.  These are reduced emissions and a cleaner and quieter truck on the track.  The truck has been very competitive, scoring an historic win for a biodiesel truck in the UK at Thruxton on 21 July 07.  Working with partners Mabanaft and Fleetsolve, Jenkins Motorsport will continue to develop the SISU SL250 truck to have it running on 100% biodiesel before the end of the 2007 championship.
