Widening Participation
Local Authority Support Unit
The project addresses the growing problem of illicit and illegal off-road motorcycling and mini-bikes (and to a lesser extent use of 4 wheel drive vehicles) that faces local authorities and landowners,. It has been shown that policing the problem is much more effective when proper facilities are available for the participants to use. However, local authorities are increasingly cautious because of problems including the actual and perceived cost of litigation and complaints about nuisance.
The Local Authority Support Unit provides professional advice on the benefits of providing facilities for mini-bikes, off-road motorcycling and 4x4 use, on best practice in establishing such facilities and on overcoming the common problems. This reduces the problem of illicit mini-bike, off-road motorcycling and 4x4 use and, by providing safe and legal facilities, increases participation in the sport.
